Chronixx is ‘DREAD & TERRIBLE’

Chronixx is 'DREAD & TERRIBLE'

…isn’t it wonderful?
I have admired this artist since I first heard his music two years ago in Jamaica. I remember asking, ‘a who dat man?’ and was told it was a ‘new’ artist by the name of Chronixx.
The track was this one right here:
“Behind Curtain”

I am big on lyrics…everyone knows that. When I hear a song I dissect it from verse to chorus. Hook and all.
“Best fren a come fi tek yu life a di worst ting yu could ever si”
Then Chronixx asks: “how mi fi trus an mi nuh certain, wha yu a du behind curtain”.
Then what I am accustomed to: “dem evil, dutty heart badmind people”.
“Mi nah play fi chop off the friendship before the linkage guh nuh further”…”bad mind cyah get mi offa da road ya, suh stop spend yu money paa obeah”.

Seriously now. With lyrics like these, Chronixx is definitely most deserving of all the accolades he has been receiving. He has accomplished a lot in a short time, and his positive, uplifting songs are a source of inspiration as well as healing for many.

His work ethics is another reason I admire this artist. With Chronixx, from what I gather, it’s all about the team. It’s not about building hype…it’s sacrificing and building a team, building an industry. It’s loyalty and it’s hard work. Chronixx and Zync Fence…what a combination.

I watched a few interviews with Chronixx via Youtube, and a particular discussion he had ‘Onstage’ with Winford is the reason I am writing this article. I developed even more respect for this artist. His knowledge of the industry is remarkable, and his vision for the future of our beloved genre is impressive.

Here we have a young man who has not physically been on this planet for a quarter century, yet his wisdom is way beyond his years. Age is definitely just a number here for real. Jah blessed all youth with wisdom…what is done with it is a whole other story however. Chronixx is definitely an old soul.

There are numerous songs by Chronixx that I have on repeat like everyone else.
“Smile-Jamaica”, “Here Comes Trouble”, “Beat & A Mic”, “Nah Follow Nobody”, “They Don’t Know” and so many others. It’s hit after hit for this artist, and Jah know im deserve it.

On April 1st, “Dread & Terrible” the EP by Chronixx was released (check iTunes). Today, April 12th, it’s number one on the Billboard Reggae Chart. Congratulations to the entire team. Well deserved!

Chronixx at the moment is enjoying sold out venues on his European tour. France, Portugal, Belgium, Holland, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Germany are some of the places the “Dread & Terrible” crew has blessed with awesome performances. Crazy reggae love.

I congratulate Chronixx, Zync Fence and the entire family. You make us proud. Continue spreading the message.

A this mi love…
From the EP…
Reminds me of “Rockers” the movie. Rockers was dangerous, but this dread and terrible.
“The peas bun up”…

Jegz’ Debut EP is “IRIE”

Reggae artist Jegz, will dedicate 2014 to launching, promoting and showcasing his debut EP, “IRIE”, to the delight of his fans. Produced by Black90 Records, “IRIE” is now available worldwide, through the digital distribution giant, 21st Hapilos out of New York City.

“My current project is the EP (titled Irie), which is to be released shortly. Also the video shoot for my new single, “Good Love”. My mixtape is ready, overdue and highly anticipated”, says Jegz. One of the singles from this EP and titled “Me She Want”, has been in rotation since 2013. The song received even more attention when the official video clip was broadcasted on CVM TV, HYPE TV, RETV, MD TV and various cable and Youtube channels.

Jegz’s new single “Good Love”, another track taken from his upcoming EP, has started to grab the attention of many worldwide, propelling Jegz into airwaves radio network. “Good Love” showcases both his strong musical talents as well as his versatility.

Regarding his style Jegz says: “My style is a fusion of Roots/Rock/Reggae and hardcore Dancehall music. I call it ‘Dance Rock Reggae’. It is always the two root musics (Reggae & Dancehall) fused to other genres, that creates my style. I would say I have many moods… you know? Many styles.”

Driven by a desire to create music that inspires, while delivering potent messages, Jegz aims to “be a musical ambassador for my country and people, much like Jimmy Cliff and Shabba Ranks.” Native of a small community called Rowe Town in Clarendon, Jamaica, Jegz is seeking to put Black 90 Records on the map. “Whats new for me musically? Learning not just how to be a professional artiste, but to mold myself into an excellent musician.”

In 2012, Jegz inked a recording and booking deal with Black90 Records, the label currently spearheading the promotion campaign for his debut EP. “It’s a lovely feeling to work with Jegz, and he is s very talented artist. Our expectations are unbelievable”, remarks Laurence Warren, aka Andrew Black90, founder of Black90 Records.

Fans can be on the lookout for Jegz’ latest music video “Good Love”, which will be released shortly, and is currently available on iTunes. Check out http://www.jegzmusic.com, Jegz’ official website, for launch details regarding the EP, and so much more.

Vybz Kartel – “to whom much is given…”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXFFnBCiZDQ

Well well well. I couldn’t let another day go by without voicing my opinion on this “Vybz Kartel Situation”. Yes, it’s indeed a situation, and a very very sad one I might add. (watch the eye rolling start)…read on…

Everyone has an opinion on the “situation”, and everyone has been voicing freely. As it should be. I’ll take this opportunity to voice mine.

I met Kartel for the first time in Brooklyn, New York at a show in The Warehouse. Spragga Benz introduced him to the crowd (Kartel wasn’t booked…we didn’t even know who he was), and Spragga’s words were: “da yute yah bad!”. Kartel ran onto the stage and gave us five minutes. Bad indeed! (I have those pix somewhere. Old Celebrity Plus followers might remember them)

Since everyone residing in the free world already know the history of Kartel’s rise to stardom, the self-proclaimed Worl Boss…the dj with the most witty lyrics…the personality that causes you to take notice…I can just get straight to my point. No matter who you are or how much you detest dancehall music and Kartel himself…his personality “made you look”. There is just something about Kartel that captivates. All when yu nuh like a bone inna im body like many people…he has the ability to “keep you looking”.

Here is the sad part.

I am no “Gaza” supporter. I don’t get down inna all a dat. I am a supporter of my homeland, Jamaica. I am a supporter of Reggae and Dancehall. I will support anything Jamaican that is positive and sheds a positive light on our island.

I have always rated the ever smiling Kartel. What an extremely talented individual he is. Well-spoken and intelligent…(in some ways). He has the ability to lead. Tremendous leadership qualities were bestowed on him by The Most High…(the only BOSS). Did he utilize these leadership qualities positively? I am not so sure. I am not one who believe the responsibility of becoming a role model should rest on entertainers and superstars…that’s a huge task…often times burdensome. However, I do believe when you choose or is chosen to become a superstar, you have an obligation to your supporters. Some, no matter how much you may not want it, will look to you to lead them. This is when you have to look inward and adjust. Either accept the responsibility or step out of the blinding lime light. Unfair to the artist? Maybe…………………………………………but what you gonna do?

If you sing an ‘innocent’ song and realize some lean on every word…willing to do everything you say and that’s NOT WHAT YOU WANT, you have to be ready to adjust. (This is not just about Kartel either…this is to any artist or movie star out there) If you DON’T adjust, then that’s what you want. If you are in the public eye…open your eyes.

When you are blessed with leadership qualities…lead!

The verdict is in…the sentence has been issued.
Jamaica has lost someone who could have done great things for our country. With the persuasive powers of Mr Palmer, he could have helped to end the violence in Jamaica, instead of now serving a life sentence because of it. (yes…the violence can end)

Teenage pregnancy (17 and under) is on the rise in Jamaica .Some of these young girls are the biggest fans of Kartel. I am NOT saying Kartel is responsible for them being pregnant (some) with no means of support, not at all. I just think with a voice as powerful as his, he could have eventually found a way to get through to these young girls, causing them to realize the importance of abstinence and education.

“TO WHOM MUCH IS GIVEN…MUCH IS REQUIRED”

Kartel was blessed with so much I think it got to his head. I watched quite a few interviews with Kartel just prior to his incarceration, and it was quite obvious that his fame and power had gotten to him. Referring to himself in third person with each answer, and basically just being quite smug.

I will forever stick to my opinion which is: ADIJAH PALMER aka…WORL BOSS…ADDI…TEACHA…VYBZ KARTEL…whatever you want to call him, would have made a great leader. The truly sad part is, he and his co-convicts will never see the street for quite some time. Kartel should not give up though…he is loved by his supporters and can still do positive things from a prison cell if he truly care about the country. There is always a way…and there is always hope.

Now…to the ignorant folks threatening Digicel, the judge, the police, the jurors etc…STOP IT! Violence begets more violence. Kartel was tried and found guilty. PERIOD!

Let’s move on from here…shall we?

(When you really look into it…he is a leader. Need positive examples though. Sad!)

Warrior King – 1/2 Dozen Questions

Warrior King2

“No real man can live without a woman”…

“Ill never go where the pagans go…I’ll never do what the heathens do”…

“Dem cyah get mi downnnnn”…

Powerful lyrics from a powerful artist. I have always admired, respected, and hailed Warrior King as one of the best roots artist the genre has seen.

I caught up with Warrior King recently and asked my 1/2 dozen questions.

Q-Blessings…how are you King? It’s been a while.

A-First and foremost…greetings in the Name of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie the 1st. I’m in good spirits and health, and still doing Jah work !!!!!!!

Q-Good to hear that. So, what has Warrior King been up to?

A-I’ve been putting in the work as usual. I recently completed a tour of the West Coast, and parts of the Midwest. (USA) I’m also presently working on my new album.

Q-Who are some of the producers and artists that will grace this album?

A- On this project I’m working with producers such as Suku from Ward21, Khabir, James Lord from the Irie Sounds label, Cali buddz, Bulby and my own Rootz Warrior label to name a few. The project is still in progress, but I’ve callaborated with Beres Hammond so far.

Q- A little birdie told me that President Obama loves your music. Says you and Bob Marley are two of his favorite artists? Is that true?

A-Yes. The President of the United States of America (President Obama) mentioned Bob Marley and myself as his favorite reggae artists, on an interview he did a few years ago on television. It’s a blessing my music is reaching high and low places. Rastafari!!!!!

Q- You have had major success since your music exploded on the scene a decade ago. Who and what inspires you?

A-The main source of my inspiration comes from H.I.M Haile Selassie 1st . My love for life and respect for women also inspires me. My conviction to uplift the human family out of the depressive state they are in today!!!!!!

Q-A lot has been going on in Jamaica…within our culture…within the music. What advice do you have for us? The youths, the leaders, your peers?

A-.In answer to your question, I can say there has been a drastic break down in our moral values that we used to uphold as a people. We have lost respect for self and where we are coming from. We have lost respect for the Creator, and the light we used to shine through our music and culture its swiftly dimming. What can I say? I’ve tried my best to be an example, and now I’m appealing to my peers, leaders and people of great influence in Jamaica to stand up for what is right at all times. Regardless! ……… Jamaica and Ethiopia are the light houses of the world!!!!! Thank you.

So there you have it. Look out for Warrior Kings new project coming up shortly.
