EyeGen is “All Right.”

There is nothing I like more than good food and good music. All genres appeal to me, but reggae music, however, is my first love. I may be biased, but there is no sad emotion that a pulsating drum and base riddim can not soothe. (Add a plate a food and it’s a vibe right through).

In walks EyeGen.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, and raised in Portmore, EyeGen was influenced by some of the pioneers and icons of reggae music. Dennis Brown, Garnett Silk, Bob Marley, and the messenger, Luciano, are just a few of the stalwarts of the genre he hails as his inspiration. Blessed with an angelic voice and prolific writing ability, this personable artist began actively pursuing music and started recording shortly after leaving Ascot High School in Greater Portmore.

The Musically Unifying label whose CEO is the Grammy Award-winning music producer EchoSlim, is at the helm of EyeGen’s career. “All Right,” and “Rockaway,” the first two singles released recently for EyeGen, has been receiving love locally and internationally. I smiled broadly at the realization Thailand was on the list of countries showing love to this artist. Not bad for a newcomer to the music scene, as it speaks volumes about the team steering the career of this talented artist.

I caught up with EyeGen recently and of course I had to ask him 1/2 dozen questions for you. Done know, if the artist is hot, I have to blaze the fire right here. Before I get into the Q&A, I encourage you to click on the links below (after) and get familiar with this artist. What impressed me about the music and video is the vintage vibes I feel each time I hear the tracks. That scratch as the needle hits the vinyl record, the iconic record store in Kingston, Jamaica, and the old soul, old school vibes from this young artist. It is all reminiscent of a musical era that was simple, pure, and magical.

Anyway, without further delay, let’s hear what EyeGen has to say:

CP-EyeGen, how does it feel to have your music being played all over the world?

EyeGen-It is a blessing from above. The feeling is so overwhelming it is difficult for me to explain. I have to give thanks to the team first and foremost. Musically Unifying has been there for me through the rough and the good times, the sad and the glad times. Again, I am blessed to have a team who guides me and motivates me along this journey. I am inspired by them to make great music, and I am blessed to see this dream come to life. I give thanks to The Most High all the time, because not every youth get the opportunity to showcase their talent to the world and realize their dream. Yes I.

CP-Having a team who stands with you offering guidance and encouragement is most important. I am pretty certain you are excited to perform for your fans wherever they may be, but is there a country/city in which you cannot wait to touch down for a performance?

EyeGen-There is a wide variety of countries and cities in which I would love to perform, but the Motherland, Africa, from where everything and everyone derives is where I can not wait to perform. It would be a blessing to go back home and learn about the roots of where we’re from. I know the people there would love to see me on stage, and I would love to perform for them. Performing in Ethiopia tops the list as my dream place to perform. It would be a dream come true for both my team and me. Africa, oh God man, I have always dreamed of going there. Africa is a must, and I am eager to bless them with my music.

CP-Besides reggae and dancehall, what other music genres do you enjoy?

EyeGen-I enjoy various genres, but topping the list would be RnB, then Afro Beat, Hip-hop/rap, jazz and a wide variety of others. I never limit myself as it pertains to music.

CP-What would you say to someone who claims reggae music is dead?

EyeGen-How reggae fi dead an EyeGen deh bout? That’s the opinion of some, but reggae can never die ’cause a life reggae deal wid. I can understand why some would say the genre is dead, but I do not agree. It might be true that there are not many in the new generation waving the reggae banner and delivering the messages reggae is known for, but reggae is alive and well and will always be. I just wish some of the talented youths in and around Jamaica had access to the resources that would let their voices be heard musically.

CP-What does EyeGen enjoy doing when he is not recording or performing?

EyeGen-I fuljoy the art of making music, and that’s my first priority. Doing what I love and loving the life I am living. I like to read, and I love the art of cooking. Cooking requires patience and I like it. Food is the staff of life, our medicine. My entire family fuljoys cooking and so do I. Football is a must for I. It is a joy for me to play it and I also fuljoy watching it. Art/drawing is also something I like. I have not done much drawing recently, but it is still a hobby of mine.

CP-What is one thing you would like your fans to know about you that they might not already know?

EyeGen-Well, that’s a very good question. My fans need to know that like many others, I have been through hell and back and now I am here. Dem a go tired fi si mi face!

There you have it. Short and sweet and to the point. Click the links below and see why EyeGen will become a household name shortly. This artist is destined for greatness, and I am here for it. I know you are too.
