“What Goes Around” Has Come Around

wga

“WHAT GOES AROUND” is a twisted tale about male/female relationships, that looks at the issues of infidelity, safe sex and HIV awareness.” Surason Website

It takes a lot to impress me, but one Sunday night in 2008 in downtown Fort Lauderdale, Film Director Tehut9 and his production crew succeeded.

In 2008, (yes, you heard right), I was invited to the premiere of Tehut9’s latest film “What Goes Around”, starring some famous dancehall faces, and I was left not only impressed but filled with pride. This movie is a twisted tale about male/female relationships, that looks at the issues of infidelity, safe sex and HIV awareness.

On the night of the premiere there were two shows, both sold out. Had there been a third show scheduled, I imagine that would have been sold out as well. From where I stood toward the end of the first showing, people were commenting about wanting to stay
for the second show. Unfortunately for them, the 8 p.m. crowd wasn’t having it at all.

“What Goes Around” is just like the title suggests, and there is no shortage of deceit, lies, lessons, laughs and good ole karma. An eclectic cast which boasts everyone from a famous model to a cameo from a dancehall superstar; each executing their role exceptionally well.

“Steve (Tehut9) is a great story-teller’ commented “Shottas” producer/director Cess Silvera who I invited and sat him in the seat next to mine. After all, I wanted to see the expression on his face throughout the film and get his honest feedback. The evening was so magical we actually stayed for the second show. Watching Cess Silvera stand up and applaud at the end of the film made me feel even more proud of Tehut9, his vision, the cast, and our film industry.

What impressed me about Tehut9’s writing and the cast, was the way they conveyed serious messages often times in a comedic fashion. This film is far from being classified as a comedy, but you will laugh. Oh yeah…I know I did many times. Hey, chalk it up to some amazing acting skills and the writers ability to not become preachy.

It’s difficult for me to decide who my favorite character was. The flamboyant Sylvester played by Flippa Mafia (you may not remember him as John John in “Shottas”, but I bet you won’t forget him in this flick). Randy played by dancer/dj Ding Dong, Jimmy Winchester (KC Jockey), Elroy (Supa Twitch), Denzel (Nohard ‘Noah’ Grant), Lucille, Adonis, the crackhead or John. When you watch it, you can decide.

Fast forward to now (December 2015).
After seven years, “What Goes Around” is finally being released and is now available for purchase. Feel free to log onto http://www.sunrason.com and order your copy. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

This will not only make a great stocking stuffer, but it will also be another masterpiece to add to your movie collection. Besides,  I bet nothing will trump the satisfaction you’ll feel knowing you supported our film industry.

Finally…”What Goes Around” has come around!

Richie Loop – 1/2 Dozen Questions

rlp

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Dancehall Artiste Richard Webb more popularly known as Richie Loop, exploded onto the music scene in 2010 with his monster hit “My Cup”.

Celebrity Plus caught up with Richie recently for our quick 1/2 dozen questions. Check it out below…

CP-Greetings Richie. How are you?
RL-Bag a sexiness lol you know, what’s up Shilo?

CP-I’m here looking at you the sexy one lol. I see you’ve been quite busy lately. Tell your fans some of the things you’ve been working on?
RL-Well as you know, Richard Webb aka Richie Loop is always working. Even when you don’t hear my music, I am hard at work producing for others. As the saying goes, “every crop have their season”, so just #keepwatch and #keeplistening.

CP-From our recent conversation, I gathered you have a specific vision for your career. Am I correct?
RL-Lol most definitely. Richie Loop’s vision is totally out the box, and if you notice I speak of him from a third person perspective. My vision is to fuse my type of music with every type of music there is. Yeah man!

CP“My Cup” was a huge hit for you. How did that track come about, and did it open doors for you?
RL– Every hit open doors for a young artiste, so much respect to myself and Robert Livingston. This track “My Cup” came about in the early part of 2010. I was just there in the lab making beats as usual and watching the television at the same time. I think it was BET. An interview came on with Lil Wayne, and there was this big thing about what he had in his cup. So from there I just rolled with the ball, making the hook in my head as I went along making the beat. Two hours later, beat was done. Song complete. The rest is history lol.

CP-Who are some of the artists with whom you have collaborated, and who would you like an opportunity to work with on a track?
RL-Well, names like Busy Signal, Christopher Martin, D-Major, Zizabafana, Benny Page, and Badroyale just to name a few. To be frank, everyone wants to work with an artiste who’s bigger than they are. Not in age, but fan base wise. So for me, anyone who would like to make a difference in the music, let’s work!!!

CP-These are my 1/2 Dozen Questions. Anything else you’d like to add?
RL-You didn’t ask if I have a girlfriend. Lol lol lol Dwl. Every interviewer ask the relationship question.

Well, not this interviewer Mr Loop lol. That too can stay in your cup! Lol

So make sure you link Mr Richard Webb aka Richie Loop on Social Media, and check his videos on YouTube!

Marsha Is Living The “SunLife”

marsha12

Vivacious, sexy, beautiful and multi-talented, are just a few of the words that comes to mind when describing singer/songwriter Marsha.

This cross-over artist who is characterized by a natural ease and elegance is as comfortable belting out Island music such as reggae, as she is cooing pop or wailing a familiar R&B number.
Marsha grew up in Kingston the cultural capital of Jamaica with her two siblings and the thing she loved most even back then was to sing. “She was always singing no matter what else was
going on in the house,” recalls her mother, Winsome.

The young songstress drew her inspiration from icons of the music
world including the renowned Bob Marley, songbird Marcia Griffiths, Tina Turner and Michael Jackson.

Fans across the globe have long been enjoying aural treats from Marsha while she toured the world and promoted her hit single “Piece of my heart” with international reggae artist Shaggy. Her impressive portfolio will reveal that she has also collaborated
with Dancehall diva Lady Saw, hip-hop standouts the Roots and Bad Boy Entertainment’s P’ Diddy and Loon.

Marsha is back with another hit, “Sunlife” to rave reviews. The video has been on rotation locally and internationally since it’s release a few weeks ago. “Island breeze feeling” is a comment I read somewhere on one of these social media sites. Anyway, be sure to log on and keep connected with Marsha. Check her out on these links below. Like, Share & talk up!

Freemynz says: it’s “Time To Shine”…

free11

Shango Trex & Catapila are Freemynz!

Let me tell you a quick bit about what has been happening with this musical duo. I won’t make this sound scripted and press release-ish, I will write it the way I feel it. Honest and direct!

These two musicians hail from our beautiful island Jamaica. If you are not familiar with this island, it’s the one bursting at the seams with talent.

Shango and ‘Pila, are personable and talented musicians who are lighthearted and loving. This comes through, or shines through if you would, in their music. They possess a vibe which makes you feel nothing but pure joy. In these perilous times, I’d say that’s vital, wouldn’t you?

Their latest single “Time To Shine”, is slated for release on August 21st, and the official music video which was shot on location in Japan, to be released shortly thereafter. (Insert my big grin here :-)). So yeah…Shango Trex & Catapila are currently in Japan promoting this single, and I encourage you to hit their events page on Facebook to be a part of the action. Get your GPS out and follow Freemynz. Speaking of “following Freemynz”, our favorite duo now has a Twitter account. Be sure to follow them there as well.

“Time To Shine” produced by famed Billboard chart topping producer Jon FX (Jamaica/US) & Edison (Japan), is not just a song sung by Freemynz, it’s also the way they are viewed in my eyes. It’s Freemynz’ time to shine…brighter! Amazing talent who has brought our genre across the ocean, and is constantly waving our “one love” banner.

Be sure to check out a snippet of “Time To Shine” right here on Freemynz’ Facebook fan page:

LeAnn is “Thinking About You”…

leannw

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Keisha “LeAnn” Wright inherited the musical spirit seemingly common in many Jamaicans.  Keisha emanates a natural and undying love for music, singing and songwriting.  This became evident to her family and friends during her school years when Keisha became involved in any activity that involved singing, music and the performing arts.  This tenacious trend followed with her throughout her school life and beyond.

Her love continued to intensify and soon became a passion as after leaving University Keisha found simple avenues to continue singing and performing.  She joined the Jamaican Folk Group in 2001 during which time they recorded their second Folk Album.  Keisha mostly enjoys singing Gospel/Spirituals, Pop, RnB and soulful music.  Although her musical interest spans genres such as Reggae R&B and Jazz, her intention is to synchronize these to spell out her beliefs about life and its teachings in a soul capturing style.  Her biggest influences include Patti Labelle, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Luther Vandross, Kenneth ‘Baby Face” Edmunds, Mary J. Blige, Lady Saw, Faith Evans, Kelly Price, Ann Nesby, Yolanda Adams among others.

Keisha’s dream of becoming a recording artiste actually took shape after pursuing graduate studies when music became a key feature of her daily life. Since her completion of graduate studies in 2004, Keisha made steady moves towards honing a musical career.  In 2006 she was selected to collaborate with Beenie Man for a Cover of “Stan” for the Covers Album which is currently available on iTunes and has done well in Japan. Keisha continues taking steps to sharpen her songwriting and vocal skills when she enrolled at the Edna Manley College for the Visual and Performing Arts as a part- time student in 2007 and began making strides to improving her network in the music industry.  Despite holding a 9-5 job, Keisha has continued singing in cabaret and Jazz performances including, Jazz in the Gardens and Christopher’s Jazz Café, JoJo’s, as well as for private audiences. Keisha also continues to work on studio recordings.

Keisha whose stage name is LeAnn, has since completed several singles, and intends to create a space for her soulful and exciting musical flavor in the market. Keisha’s melodious and soulful voice will captivate her audience while taking them though soothing melodies.

Zhavea – 1/2 Dozen Questions

Zw

I like introducing new faces and talents to the readers of my blog. With the popularity this songstress has gained in recent months however, I am sure this is not the first time you guys are hearing of Zhavea. It will be the first time reading her 1/2 dozen answers to my 1/2 Dozen Questions though…so at least I have that. (Insert big cheesy grin here)

Yeah, so…I had the pleasure of meeting Zhavea and her momager in Kingston last summer, and a more personable, humble individual would be hard to find. Zhavea is not only talented and beautiful, she is classy, friendly, down to earth and just the sweetest.

She has been working very hard on her craft, and fans will be happy to know her EP “Warrior” is ‘out deh’ and available. Her hot collab with the dancehall doctor Beenie Man, “Gimme That Love” is steadily climbing the charts, and I think it’s safe to say 2015 will be a great year for Zhavea.

Anyway…short and sweet. 1/2 dozen answers from Zhavea:

Q. How are you Zhavea?.

A. I am good. How are you doing?

Q. I am blessed and trying to stay warm. So, you’ve been making quite a stir in dancehall recently, and spending a lot of time in Jamaica. Tell us about your journey.

A. Yes, I’ve been here in Jamaica for about 2 months, and I’ve been very busy since I’ve been here. I’ve been all over the island doing promo’s, interviews, and performances for my EP “Warrior” which was just released in November. Things have been moving very fast, and I’ve made a lot of progress since being here. I had the opportunity to perform on ” Magnum Sting 2014″ during the electronic dancehall segment, which was such an amazing opportunity.

Q. “The West Indian/Dancehall Pop Princess” is how some are referring to you. How did that title come about?

A. I like to call my style of music a fusion of pop and dancehall. Even though my music leans more towards the pop side, there are many West Indian/dancehall elements I’ve incorporated to make my music sound crossover..

Q. Gotcha.  You have two dancehall collabs that I know about. “Tun-Up” feat E-Dee, and “Gimme That Love” with the dancehall doctor Beenie Man. How has this experience been for you, and how has the response been?

A. “Tun up” was actually my first pop dancehall tune I released back in 2013. That song definitely opened up a lot of doors for me to be where I am today. After “Tun Up” was released, I began to open up for other major artistes in the industry. “Gimmie That Love” feat Beenie Man was such a great opportunity, and this  single has definitely helped increase my popularity in the industry. That’s the single I’m pushing right now here in Jamaica. The video  was released back in November, and it is getting a lot of air time. Yeah, definitely look out for that.

Q. Has your debut EP “Warrior” been released?

A. Yes, it’s a 7 track EP which was released back in November.

Q. What are you currently working on, and what can we expect from Zhavea in 2015?

A. I will be doing a lot of traveling this year to do a lot of performances. And I will be doing a lot more promo for my EP. You will definitely get more music this year as well.

There you have it. Zhavea deserves our support. Check her out on social media, and since “sharing is caring”, tell a friend. Share the info.
